NCS BUDGET AND PROPOSITIONS RECEIVE VOTER APPROVAL; POULIN ELECTED TO BOE
By a vote of 304 to 188, residents of the Northville CSD approved the district's proposed $9,643,632 budget for the 2012-13 school year. The budget calls for a 0.66 percent spending decrease from the 2011-12 school year. Under the approved budget, the district's tax levy will increase $129,193 or 2.47%.
Voters also approved by a vote of 365 to 125 a proposition that allows the district to utilize $54,172.96 from its Capital Reserve Fund to pay down debt associated with past building projects.
By a vote of 283 to 201, district residents also approved a proposition that will allow Northville to purchase one 65-passenger bus and one 41-passenger bus to replace vehicles that are beyond their life expectancy. The state will reimburse Northville for approximately 48% of the purchase cost of the buses, reducing local taxpayers' share to about $110,000 over the life of the five-year bond.
Residents also approved Mr. Dennis Poulin's write-in candidacy for the vacant Board of Education seat. He received 289 votes.
The members of the NCS Board of Education and Administration would like to express their sincere thanks to all community members who supported the budget and propositions, and welcome Mr. Poulin when he joins the BOE on July 1. They also send their thanks to outgoing BOE member Mrs. Lynne Paul as she completed her 10-years of dedicated service as a BOE member and officer.
